A big hello to Christchurch & beyond
The overall look this season focuses on definition!
Nipped in waists for jackets, dresses, tunics and dressy jackets/knits.
There is less flowing design this season opening the way for more classic type styles to emerge.
Tweed jacket – chanel and peaked lapel styles – short cropped and knee length, very nipped in to the body which works well for the T shape and slender hourglass
Denim jackets – the classic denim jacket has never been actually out of fashion as such, but in recent years for some, not been out of the wardrobe very often; but this season it has been given the thumbs up as a fashion item worth using to create your unique look. The original classic cut with top stitching and pockets across the chest is back!
Skinny or tapered jeans/trousers are a valuable addition to your wardrobe as they will team with tunics and short dresses. Hint: light jeans draws attention while deeper colour jeans recede gives the top/dress the centre of attention. Bootleg styles still are valuable for the triangle and hourglass figures. If you would like to take a sojourn from your normal blue jeans Not your daughters Jeans come in colours this season e.g. turquoise and pink. This unique jean Lift Tuck technology claims to make you look a full size smaller making you proud of your curves. The cost could be worth it>
Shoes/boots – flat boots and shoes feature which are juxtaposed with the high stiletto with special emphasis on block heels, thick treads, lacing, heavy metal details and quirky sock inserts. Booties (vamp well near the ankle) will be seen with platforms, stacked heel, laced and zipped worn with patterned/coloured tights and stockings, and leggings.
Leather also is seeing a little come back being seen in skirts and look-alike leather leggings.
Colours:
Neutrals:
Camel, beige, cream, taupe and shades of brown (warm colours). Camel is not a colour we have seen in recent years a lot but this season it could take centre stage.
And lots and lots of ….. soft grays grading to charcoal, midnight blue and of course black (cool colours>
Investing in key pieces for your core wardrobe means using some neutrals as a base but add colour to make it sizzle!
Add colour with knits, coats, jackets, shoes, belts, jewellery, scarves, hats and gloves
Brights:
Cool: cobalt blue, rich purple, emerald green, and even good old jade as had a come back; primary red to blood red, rich magenta, plum, fuchsia, deep rose pink and teal, bright lemon yellow which does not look so great on most people so team it with a contrasting ‘star’ colour from your palette so that it counteracts the washed out affect it can create.
Warm: orange red, deep coral red, deep apricot, peacock blue, burnt orange and clear bright orange, forest green, warm emerald green, teal.
Prints: Geometric, retro prints for the creative classic
Converging florals for the more feminine dresser
Remember scale when using patterns which should be complimentary with your height and proportion.
Creating warmth for winter:
Wonderful scaves, gloves and hats are a welcome accessory to dress up outfits, and keep you warm as well. Use your ‘star’ colours here especially around your face and will have you glowing with health and eyes sparkling. Compliments flowing!
Enjoy your winter fashions and feel free to give me a call if you need some inspiration or help with your purchases!
